The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District's governing body
is a three-person Board of Park Commissioners whose members are
appointed to three year terms by the Probate Court and serve
without pay, as do hundreds of volunteers who provide thousands of
hours of public service. The Board's policies, which direct and
guide the District's professional staff, are based on Section
1545.11 of the Park District Law, which in part states: "The Board
of Park Commissioners may conserve lands for the preservation of
the natural resources of the State and may create parks, parkways,
forest reservations and also develop, improve, protect and promote
the use of same."
