The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District holds two
biennial festivals, Apple Festival and Maple Festival.
APPLE FESTIVAL

Apple Festival 2012 will be held on Saturday & Sunday,
September 29 & 30 at the Allen County Farm Park. This two
day event provides entertainment and activities for all ages and is
free and open to the public.
Pioneer and modern crafts persons demonstrate their talents as
well as have items available for purchase. Delicious apple
butter is cooked in copper kettles over an open fire and is
available for purchase along with apples and apple cider.
Demonstrations are given on the antique cider presses, showing the
old fashioned way of making apple cider. An apple pie contest
is held on Saturday with cash prizes.
Visit the large Children's area and try your skills at stilts,
hoop rolling and sack races. Join in the apple eating
contest, pumpkin painting, pony rides, or go through the corn
maze plus many other unique activites to take part in.
Take a tractor-drawn hayride and visit the frontiersman
encampment. Enjoy the outdoor cooking demonstrations at the
log cabin and antique apple orchard.
Entertainment is scheduled throughout both days for your
enjoyment. Apple desserts, dumplings, homemade ice cream,
sugar corn popped in a iron kettle over an open fire, sandwiches
plus much more!

Maple
Festival

Maple Festival 2012 will be held on Saturday & Sunday, March
3 & 4. This two day event features a guided tour along a
½ mile "sugar bush" trail in McLean Teddy Bear Park.
Several interpretive stops along the trail explain the maple
syrup production from early Native American times to modern day
methods. The walk concludes with a visit to our "sugar shack"
and a taste of real maple syrup. Ohio maple syrup is various
sizes is sold, along with maple candy, sugar, etc. "Maple
Dog" sandwiches and drinks are also available to purchase.
