Go Outside And Play! (Pond Exploration)

Families, celebrate the park district’s 50th Anniversary this year by trying to complete all 50 activities listed on the UK National Trust’s list of “50 Things To Do Before You Are 11 ¾”. Dress to be outdoors. This month, we will be exploring a pond. Parents might want to bring towels or extra clothes for the ride home! For more information, see the article on 7. Our society has raised an entire generation of children who do not spend much time outdoors. Research is showing that inactive, indoor living is affecting children’s physical, mental and emotional development. In 2012, the United Kingdom’s National Trust launched a nationwide campaign to encourage children to get outside. They created a list of “50 Things To Do Before You Are 11 3/4”. The list includes many of the outdoor activities that once defined childhood but are now sadly missing in children’s lives.
Families and adults who are not ready to grow up (like me!) are invited to join us this year – once each month, Mar. – Nov. – as we complete many of the activities on the National Trust’s list. We will focus on different activities each month. Our first adventure will begin Sun., Mar. 27 at 2 pm at Hermon Woodlands Metro Park. Dress appropriately for the weather. Be prepared to have oodles of fun as we “Go Outside and Play”!
