The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District’s Apple Festival is a biennial event held at the Allen County Farm Park in the Fall of the even years.
This two day event provides entertainment and activities for all ages and is free and open to the public.
Pioneer and modern crafts persons demonstrate their talents as well as have items available for purchase. Delicious apple butter is cooked in copper kettles over an open fire and is available for purchase along with apples and apple cider. Demonstrations are given on the antique cider presses, showing the old fashioned way of making apple cider. An apple pie contest is held on Saturday with cash prizes.
Visit the large Children’s area and try your skills at stilts, hoop rolling and sack races. Join in the apple eating contest, pumpkin painting, pony rides, or go through the corn maze plus many other unique activites to take part in.
Take a tractor-drawn hayride and visit the frontiersman encampment. Enjoy the outdoor cooking demonstrations at the log cabin and antique apple orchard.
Entertainment is scheduled throughout both days for your enjoyment. Apple desserts, dumplings, homemade ice cream, sugar corn popped in a iron kettle over an open fire, sandwiches plus much more!
